Spectrum Vandalism Kansas City Internet

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Spectrum confirmed that an act of vandalism caused an internet outage for some users in the Kansas City metro area on Thursday afternoon, May 29. The service was restored later that evening.

The company stated that crews quickly responded to perform the necessary repairs. The vandalism occurred near trees and train tracks, making access difficult. Spectrum explained that most fiber optic cables consist of multiple strands, sometimes dozens or even hundreds. This affects the outage duration, as each strand must be reconnected.

A spokesperson for Spectrum remarked, “These acts of vandalism are not only a crime, but also affect our customers, local businesses and potentially emergency services.” The company is working with law enforcement and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is encouraged to report it to Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS.
