NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Vanderbilt University begins its journey in the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament this Friday, May 30, facing Wright State at Hawkins Field. The Commodores have a solid record of 42-16 after clinching the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title, while Wright State enters with a record of 38-19 after winning the Horizon League Tournament.

The winner of the Vanderbilt-Wright State matchup will go on to play the winner of the game between No. 2 seed Louisville and No. 3 seed East Tennessee State on May 31. The losing team will face elimination against the losing team from the Louisville-Eastern Tennessee game. The games at Hawkins Field will follow a double-elimination format.

Vanderbilt baseball last faced Wright State in a 2021 match. Coach Tim Corbin confirmed that all players will be available for the weekend’s games. Highlighting the pitching lineup is left-handed pitcher JD Thompson, who has a record of 5-5 and an earned run average (ERA) of 4.06.

The 2025 NCAA baseball tournament runs from May 30 through June 2, culminating in the College World Series starting June 13 in Omaha, Nebraska. Following regional matches, winners will advance to the Super Regionals set for June 6-9, creating an exciting path to the championship.

Vanderbilt’s recent success is underscored by its return to hosting a regional, marking its first time since 2023. As the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, the Commodores are looking to advance deep in the playoffs.
