Veteran Journalist Elizabeth Nissen Dies at 71
NEW YORK — Elizabeth Nissen, a veteran news correspondent known for her work with ABC News, CNN, and NBC, died at her home on Jan. 7, three days after her 71st birthday, her family announced.
Nissen, whose career spanned decades, was a prominent figure in broadcast journalism. She gained recognition for her coverage on ABC’s “World News Tonight” the evening Princess Diana died in 1997. Her career also included roles at CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and Newsweek. She was a co-founder and senior producer of NBC Learn, the educational division of NBC News.
“A lifelong reader, learner, and teacher, Beth was passionate about communicating information in a relatable way,” her obituary read. “She prepared her students to be critical thinkers and helped teachers improve methods and techniques for more effective instruction.”
Nissen was remembered for her wit, knowledge, and compassion. Her obituary highlighted her dedication to nurturing friendships through extensive personal correspondence. “She is remembered for her wit, her knowledge, her compassion, and her nurturing of friendships through extensive personal correspondence,” it stated.
She is survived by five of her six siblings and nine nieces and nephews. Her family did not disclose the cause of death.
