Vikram Misri Named Next Foreign Secretary, Bringing Focus on India-China Relations
Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri has been appointed as the next Foreign Secretary, succeeding Vinay Mohan Kwatra, with his tenure set to begin on July 15, according to an announcement by the Personnel Ministry.
Misri, a seasoned diplomat who previously served as India‘s ambassador to China, is known for his expertise in India-China relations, and is expected to bring a specific focus on the current tensions between Delhi and Beijing.
His extensive diplomatic career includes stints in several key roles such as Ambassador to Myanmar during the Rohingya crisis in Rakhine province and as Ambassador to China from 2019 to 2021, where he played a crucial role in negotiations during the Galwan crisis in 2020.
Throughout his career, Misri has also served in important diplomatic positions in countries like Pakistan, the United States, Belgium, and Spain, showcasing his breadth of experience and knowledge in international relations.
