Vince Carter Toronto Raptors Jersey Retirement

Vince Carter is set to become the first player in the Toronto Raptors‘ 30-year history to have his jersey number retired. According to reports from TSN and ESPN, Carter’s No. 15 jersey will be honored on November 2, 2023, prior to a game between the Raptors and the Sacramento Kings at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Known affectionately as “Air Canada” during his time with the Raptors, Carter was named the 1998-99 NBA Rookie of the Year. He achieved an average of 23.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists over more than six seasons with Toronto. His significant contributions to the team and the sport have been widely recognized, and his single-season record of 27.6 points per game during the 2000-01 season remains unchallenged to this day. Additionally, Carter stands fourth in the Raptors’ franchise history with a total of 9,420 career points.

Carter is not only celebrated by the Raptors but also by the Brooklyn Nets, who announced last week that they would retire his number in a ceremony scheduled for January 25, 2025. This recognition comes as Carter is set to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame with the Class of 2024. Notably, Carter is the only known player in NBA history to have participated in the league across four different decades, an accomplishment he achieved over the course of his career, which concluded after the 2019-2020 season.

Over his NBA career, Carter accumulated a total of 25,728 points across 1,541 games while playing for eight different teams. His remarkable on-court performances and longevity have left a lasting impact on the sport, solidifying his legacy as a basketball icon.
