Vinicius Junior Haunts Liverpool Ahead of Champions League Clash
Liverpool, England — Real Madrid travels to Anfield on Matchday 4 of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League Phase, featuring a player who has become a significant challenge for Liverpool fans: Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian winger has consistently troubled Liverpool, recording four wins, one draw, and scoring five goals in five meetings against them. His most notable contribution came during the 2022 Champions League final, when he netted the decisive goal in Madrid’s triumph.
Vinicius Junior’s history with Liverpool started in the 2020-21 season. The pandemic forced Real Madrid to play their Champions League quarterfinals at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium. Although he was not yet the prolific scorer he is now, Vinicius silenced his critics with a standout performance, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory against Liverpool. Madrid advanced with a 0-0 draw in the second leg.
The rivalry escalated during the 2022 final in Saint-Denis. Liverpool, wanting revenge after losing in Kyiv four years earlier, pressed hard but faced an incredible performance from Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois. Amid the chaos, Vinicius scored the only goal, netting a low cross from Federico Valverde.
Vinicius excelled again in the round of 16 of the Champions League the following year. After falling 2-0 down early at Anfield, he equalized with two goals, leading Madrid to a remarkable 5-2 comeback, with Vinicius also providing an assist in the second leg.
Last season, however, Real Madrid suffered a defeat at Anfield when Vinicius was sidelined with an injury. The 2-0 loss marked a rare setback, but it also kept his record against Liverpool flawless: five matches, five goals, two assists, and no losses.
As Real Madrid gears up for their next clash against Liverpool, all eyes will be on Vinicius Junior, who continues to forge his legacy in European football.
