Virat Kohli Retires from Test Cricket After Stellar Career

BENGALURU, India — Legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, ending a remarkable 14-year career in the longest format of the game. The decision comes just ahead of India’s five-Test tour to England, set to begin on June 20.
Kohli, 36, has played 123 Tests, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. He expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt social media post, stating, “It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on.”
Known for his aggressive style and leadership qualities, Kohli captained India in 68 Tests and holds the record for 40 wins, making him the country’s most successful Test captain. Notably, he was a key factor in India becoming a dominant force in cricket, especially abroad.
Reacting to his retirement, former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar remarked, “Your true legacy, Virat, lies in inspiring countless young cricketers to pick up the sport.” Other cricketing legends, including Sanath Jayasuriya and David Warner, praised Kohli’s commitment to fitness and his profound impact on the game.
