The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, cast his vote on Saturday at Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, located in Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State. Around 10:33 am, Ighodalo arrived at the polling station, shortly after officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ighodalo, along with his wife, Ifeyiwan, were accredited to vote at approximately 12:03 pm at the same location. Expressing dissatisfaction over the late delivery of voting materials, Ighodalo noted that the process was still within the official voting timeframe.

The candidate is set to compete against Monday Ekpobholo, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the favor of voters in the Edo Central Senatorial District. This district encompasses the Esan South-East, Igueben, Esan North East, Esan West, and Esan Central Local Government Areas.

Following the casting of his vote, Ighodalo stated, “The process has been slow, but thankfully, I’ve finally voted.” Despite the slow start, he voiced optimism regarding his prospects in the election.

Bad weather, including early morning rain, did not deter voters, as many braved the conditions to participate in the electoral process. Reports from various polling units indicated that voting has concluded in some areas, with results already being compiled.
