Wagner Cruise Hollywood Interview

LOS ANGELES, CA — In an exclusive interview, superagent and producer Paula Wagner reflected on Tom Cruise‘s lasting impact on Hollywood as they prepare for the release of the latest installment in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Wagner, who has worked with Cruise since the early 1980s, describes him as a rare talent whose star power continues to shine. “He’s Tom Cruise; he is a phenomenon,” Wagner stated, praising his ability to blend action stardom with deep acting prowess.

Wagner, who was once an actress herself, explained the nature of a true movie star during a talk at DePaul University years ago, articulating that they “light up the sky and give heat and light and energy.” Reflecting on her own career evolution, she noted, “I always wanted to work with people who challenged and inspired me, and Tom embodies that spirit.” She admires Cruise’s dedication to his craft, noting his willingness to take risks, whether performing high-stakes stunts or engaging with complex roles.

With multiple blockbuster films under his belt, including classics like “Jerry Maguire” and “Top Gun,” Wagner attributes Cruise’s staying power to a unique blend of charisma and talent. “He has the substance to match the glitter and stardom,” she said. “He always finds something physical that expresses the essence of who the character is. You can’t take your eyes off him on screen.” Wagner celebrated Cruise’s instinct for great roles and his collaboration with renowned directors.

Wagner is also taking on new challenges in her career. Aside from continuing her work in film, she recently expanded her horizons by teaching a graduate course at Carnegie Mellon University titled “Navigating the Practical Realities of the Entertainment Industry.” “I tell students about the disruptions in our industry and how they must understand the past to innovate for the future,” she shared, emphasizing the continual evolution of storytelling.

She is also developing two stage projects, including an adaptation of the classic “High Noon” for London’s West End. Another project revolves around the life of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s John Fogerty. Wagner, alongside her husband and stepson, is committed to exploring narratives that resonate, reinforcing the importance of storytelling in human culture.

As for gender equality in Hollywood, Wagner voiced her concerns over the industry’s treatment of female talent, especially as they age. She acknowledged the challenges women face in securing leading roles but expressed hope for change. “It’s something we’re all acutely aware of,” she stated. “There needs to be more films directed by women and roles that reflect women’s depth and complexity.”

Wagner concluded with her belief in the arts as a crucial element of humanity. “Art feeds our soul,” she noted, arguing for the necessity of supporting creative industries amidst technological disruptions. Her unwavering passion for theater and education is set to inspire a new generation of storytellers, ensuring the legacy of cinema and stage arts persists.
