The Walking Dead: Dead City Now Streaming on Netflix

LOS ANGELES, CA — “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” the latest spinoff from the popular franchise, has officially premiered on Netflix, allowing fans to binge-watch the entire first season as preparations for season two ramp up.
The series, originally scheduled for a January 13 release, was delayed due to licensing issues, leaving fans eager for its arrival. Now available for streaming in the U.S., the show has been described as a fresh take on the traditional post-apocalyptic saga, exploring vibrant and gritty urban landscapes.
“Dead City” centers around two of the franchise’s most complex characters, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as they navigate a Manhattan infested with zombies and rival factions. The plot thickens when Maggie enlists Negan’s help to rescue her kidnapped son, Hershel, from a sadistic warlord known as The Croat, portrayed by Željko Ivanek.
Maggie’s relationship with Negan is particularly fraught, stemming from his brutal murder of her husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun), years earlier. “Their dynamic is a disaster waiting to happen,” Cohan said, reflecting on the tension that bubbles beneath the surface. “It’s about handling your past while trying to do the right thing.”
As they journey through the decaying city, the duo encounters terrifying new walkers, including a gruesome creature known as the Arena Walker, which has been repurposed for gladiatorial fights. The show is celebrated for blending intense horror elements with a unique visual style that diverges from the franchise’s usual aesthetics.
“I really appreciate that this spinoff leans heavily into true horror,” Morgan explained. “It’s not just about surviving; it’s about what we become in the apocalypse.”
Fans are buzzing with anticipation as the second season is set to release on May 4, introducing a new villain, The Dama (Lisa Emery), a brutal gang leader aiming to seize control of Manhattan.
“Dead City” has quickly become a standout in the “Walking Dead” universe, noted for its narrative strength and stunning visuals, described as cyberpunk-esque by some fans. With its unique setting and compelling characters, the show promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, making it the perfect time to catch up before the new season.
