Kevin Knox Signing Warriors Contract

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Golden State Warriors have signed forward Kevin Knox to a 10-day contract, following the conclusion of the NBA All-Star break. Knox, who was selected ninth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, will rejoin the league after playing with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League.

Knox, 25, brings a wealth of professional experience. He spent over three years with the New York Knicks, appearing in 195 games and averaging 8.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 20 minutes per contest. His time with the Knicks ended in 2022 when he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks.

Last season, Knox played for the Detroit Pistons, where he averaged 7.2 points in 31 games. He later joined the Santa Cruz Warriors, showcasing his potential by averaging 21.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 28 games this season. His impressive G League performance made him a viable option for Golden State as they aim to enhance their roster during a challenging stretch of games in the Western Conference.

The Warriors are currently looking to fill two remaining roster spots to meet the league’s minimum requirement of 14 players on standard contracts, with Knox’s 10-day deal carrying a cap hit of $119,972. Golden State has approximately $1.37 million in available cap space and must proceed with caution due to being under a hard cap.

If Knox is retained beyond his initial contract, he could face off against his former team, the Knicks, on March 4 at Madison Square Garden. This matchup could serve as a poignant homecoming for Knox, who expressed excitement about the opportunity to contribute to the Warriors as they push for playoff positioning.

“I’m looking forward to the chance to play with some of the best in the game,” Knox said during a conference call. “Joining a team like Golden State is an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”

With three open roster spots, the Warriors will be evaluating their options closely. In addition to Knox, they may look to sign additional players to similar 10-day contracts, potentially carrying just 12 players for a period before reevaluating contracts with an eye on the upcoming postseason.
