Washington Commanders Nfl Free Agency Signings 2025

ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders are making significant moves ahead of the NFL’s legal tampering period, which kicks off on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET. The team has officially begun to reshape its roster in preparation for the 2025 season, starting with the acquisition of key players.

Notably, the Commanders have signed five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a high-profile trade with the Houston Texans. This move costs Washington multiple draft picks but adds a crucial piece to protect young quarterback Jayden Daniels. Tunsil, who has two years remaining on his $75 million contract, is expected to bolster a struggling offensive line.

“Our window to win is open, and adding Tunsil is pivotal for us,” said General Manager Adam Peters. “His experience and skill set will enhance the protection for our quarterback and improve our offensive capabilities significantly.”

Alongside Tunsil, the Commanders have also made headlines by re-signing running back Jeremy McNichols to a one-year deal. McNichols served as a reliable backup last season, achieving 261 rushing yards at an average of 4.7 yards per carry.

“He’s a valuable player who excels in blitz pick-ups and contributes both in the rushing game and in the red zone,” said Offensive Coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. “He fits well within our system.”

The team didn’t stop there; they also secured cornerback J.T. Harris on a two-year contract worth up to $10 million. Harris, who played primarily as a safety for the New Orleans Saints in 2024, is viewed as a versatile addition that can help replace the departed Jeremy Chinn.

Moreover, Washington added to its defensive line by signing Javon Kinlaw to a three-year, $45 million deal, aiming to address last season’s shortcomings in run defense. Kinlaw brings considerable talent at just 27 years old. “We were ranked near the bottom defensively, and Kinlaw should bring immediate improvements,” Peters indicated.

In addition, veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner returns for another season with the Commanders. At 34, Wagner is expected to provide leadership and veteran savvy in the middle of the defense while continuing to perform at a high level. He had over 100 tackles last season and earned his 10th Pro Bowl selection.

“Bobby is a cornerstone of our locker room. His presence and performance are invaluable as we build this team,” Peters stated.

Handling the tight end position, the Commanders re-signed Zach Ertz to a one-year deal after he tallied 66 receptions last season, providing a reliable target for Daniels. His chemistry with Daniels has proven beneficial.

“Zach is not just a skilled player, but he’s also a mentor for our young quarterback,” Kingsbury noted.

Washington is not only focusing on re-signing their own players but also acquiring new talent to complement their existing roster. With significant changes happening this offseason, the Commanders seek to enhance their competitive edge moving forward.

The legal negotiation window allows teams to begin discussions, and Washington’s aggressive strategy indicates a commitment to contending for the Lombardi Trophy for the first time since 1991. “We’re gearing up with the right pieces, and we’re ready to make a push in 2025,” Peters added with optimism.
