Wendy Williams’ Guardian Responds to Controversial Claims of Isolation

NEW YORK — Wendy Williams’ guardian Sabrina Morrissey’s attorney has responded to media reports stating that the former talk show host is being held in an assisted living facility under restrictive conditions. The attorney claims the coverage is “untrue, inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading.”
The letter asserts that a judge, not Morrissey, established the guardianship following Williams’ diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia in 2023. Subsequently, the court declared her legally incapacitated last August. “Wendy can see her family whenever she wants,” the letter states, addressing concerns over her purported isolation.
Contrary to the guardian’s claims, Williams has voiced her frustration about restrictions, stating she is often denied visitors and has limited access to the facility’s amenities. In a recent interview, she expressed that she has only been permitted to leave the fifth-floor memory unit with an approval. “I can call you, but I’m not allowed to go out,” she told TMZ. “In the last 30 days, I went out twice, for my teeth.”
The letter from Morrissey’s legal team highlights that Williams has traveled to Florida twice to spend time with family and emphasizes her current living conditions: “excellent medical care,” access to a spa, workout area, dining facilities, and terraces. “However, Wendy claims these facilities are not easily accessible,” her representative noted.
The ongoing legal battle surrounding Williams’ guardianship remains contentious, with her attorney previously seeking to terminate the arrangement last year, a request that was denied by the court. However, Williams is reportedly exploring this option again.
The legal correspondence acknowledged the nature of frontotemporal dementia but did not address allegations that Williams has been seen engaging in conversations where she appeared cognitively intact. “An independent psychiatrist recently examined Wendy and conducted a cognitive test,” Morrissey’s lawyer stated. The outcome of this assessment will be submitted to the court and may influence the guardianship’s future.
Morrissey’s attorney also pointed out that the guardian has received one payment of less than $30,000 for her services since 2022 and is currently working pro bono. “Only the Court will determine how much and when Ms. Morrissey is paid for her services rendered,” the letter explained.
Additionally, the letter warned that false narratives surrounding Williams’ condition could undermine her well-being and the protections afforded by the court. It concluded with a firm stance against misinformation: “False statements about Ms. Williams, her condition, and the guardianship harm Ms. Williams and her interests.”
Amid the controversy, Judge Lisa Sokoloff has also been mentioned in discussions about Williams’ guardianship, allegedly expressing concerns regarding her independence. Sokoloff reportedly stated, “I question how well she has handled the independence she has been given,” and referred to comments made by Williams to the media as detrimental.
Sources indicate that Williams has expressed fears of losing additional freedoms due to her public statements. Insiders revealed to TMZ that Williams believes she is facing retaliation for her attempts to advocate for herself. The New York Police Department and Adult Protective Services are also reportedly reviewing her living situation.
Williams was scheduled to appear on “The View” soon; however, her attendance remains uncertain in light of the ongoing situation. Whoopi Goldberg commented on the matter, stating, “I try not to hear what people think is going on” regarding Williams’ claims.
