Brooks Baldwin White Sox Utilityman

CHICAGO, IL — Brooks Baldwin is transforming his game as the Chicago White Sox utilityman prepares for the 2025 season. By April 3, Baldwin, 24, is focused on overcoming setbacks from 2024, where he played only a few games at the end of the season due to a wrist injury. This year, he aims to bring versatility and strength to the field.

With added weight and strength training, Baldwin’s offseason focused on enhancing his game. Director of Hitting Ryan Fuller noted, “Totally different body. He’s been very diligent.” Baldwin added a wispy mustache and bulked up his midsection, signaling a commitment to improving his performance.

Although his recent training looks promising, Baldwin’s past struggles are still fresh. He played just three at-bats in September, which affected his swing mechanics. “I was having to use more of my upper body [in my swing] near the end of last year,” Baldwin explained. “Being able to use your legs allows you to hold your posture a little better.”

Chris Getz, the White Sox general manager, commented on Baldwin’s learning curve. “One of the benefits of getting young players up here is the experiences they go through,” he said. His struggles last season combined with his quest for improvement serve as motivation for Baldwin.

As a former 12th-round pick, Baldwin’s versatility has become an essential asset. He played multiple positions during his time at UNC Wilmington, a trait he cherishes. “I played every position except for pitcher and catcher,” he shared, showcasing his willingness to contribute wherever needed.

Moving forward, Baldwin plans to maintain his strength while honing his approach at the plate. This includes making adjustments from last season, where he faced challenges with swing consistency. “It’s just something I worked on a lot this offseason,” Baldwin noted.

The pressure to perform is heightened as the White Sox look to improve from previous seasons, including a dismal 2024 where they had only 41 wins. Baldwin’s right field debut on the team this season came as part of an effort to revitalize the squad. In their season opener against the Minnesota Twins, the White Sox secured a win, emphasizing the need for players like Baldwin to step up.

Baldwin is eager to showcase his skills and contribute consistently. “I feel like it does give me more opportunities in the lineup,” he said. “I like being the utility guy who can use his athleticism anywhere.”

Looking ahead, the pressure remains on Baldwin and the White Sox to produce results. With multiple veteran players available, Baldwin knows flexibility is key to survival in the team. He recognizes the need to adapt, saying, “There’s times where he’s needed to adjust his path depending on fastball types.”

Baldwin hopes his offseason preparations will translate into a productive season. Full of ambition and showing improved fundamentals, the White Sox are betting on players like him to help navigate challenges as they strive for a more successful campaign in 2025.
