MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Courtney Williams is off to a dominant start this WNBA season, leading the Minnesota Lynx to a 2-0 record. In their most recent game, the Lynx beat the Los Angeles Sparks 89-75 on May 19, 2025.

Williams, who contributed 10 assists against the Sparks, has not only excelled in ball distribution but is also boasting a remarkable 19 assists with zero turnovers in the opening weeks of the season. ‘I came into the game just telling myself, ‘the work gonna show,’’ Williams said. ‘I’ve been in the gym, getting here early, getting shots up.’

The Lynx struggled defensively at times, allowing the Sparks to shoot 48.5% from the field in the first half. However, their offense shined as they upped their intensity in the second half, showcasing a fluid ball movement that led to an impressive 27 assists overall in both games this season.

Head coach Cheryl Reeve noted the halftime adjustments that turned the tide. ‘Whatever we have to do, we’re going to do,’ she said, referring to their shift in defensive strategy. The team has set a WNBA record in assists per game previously, and continues to emphasize the importance of an unselfish playing style this season.

Napheesa Collier was another standout player for the Lynx, scoring 24 points against the Sparks after a high-scoring opening game against the Dallas Wings. Collier expressed the team’s determination, stating, ‘We know what it takes to get there and lose in the final game. We want to get over that hump this year.’

In both games, Williams found her stride in the second half, scoring 32 of her total points during that time. Lynx fans are hopeful that this performance continues as the season progresses, especially as Williams aims to lead her team to championship contention after last season’s heartbreaking finish.

As the Lynx prepare for their next game against the Dallas Wings, the team is focused on building off their current momentum, aiming for a perfect start to the 2025 season.
