SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Racine, Kenosha, Washington, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, and Waukesha Counties starting at noon Wednesday and lasting until 3 a.m. Thursday. Additionally, a Winter Weather Advisory will be active for Walworth, Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Jefferson Counties from 9 a.m. Wednesday until 3 a.m. Thursday.
Forecasters are reporting that a panhandle hook storm is developing and approaching the Midwest. Recent computer model runs suggest a slightly weaker system tracking further south. However, enhanced lake effects could result in total snow accumulations exceeding 6 inches in areas under the Winter Storm Warning, while lighter totals are anticipated farther north and west.
Aband of lake effect snow may develop early Wednesday morning, followed by snow from the main system expected to arrive after 9 a.m. Initial assessments indicate that Wednesday’s morning commute should remain manageable, but conditions are expected to deteriorate by the evening. Snowfall is forecasted to taper off by early Thursday morning.
For the upcoming weather, tonight will be mostly cloudy with lake snow showers late, with lows around 18 degrees and winds from the north at 5-10 mph. On Wednesday, expect periods of snow, particularly heavy near the lakeside, with total accumulations of 5-7 inches, and highs reaching around 27 degrees with northeast winds at 10-15 mph. Thursday is predicted to be mostly sunny with a high of 20 degrees.
Moving into the later part of the week, Friday will see increasing clouds with snow likely late in the day, also with a high of 27 degrees. On Saturday, conditions will shift to scattered snow showers, mainly in the morning hours, maintaining a high of about 27 degrees.
Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for updates and to prepare for significant snowfall, especially during the evening commute on Wednesday.
