Wisconsin Vs Ucla Big Ten Tournament Highlights

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team showcased a powerful performance in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, defeating the UCLA Bruins 58-38 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on March 14, 2025.

Wisconsin, entering the match with a 24-8 overall record, capitalized on strong teamwork, recording 12 assists in the first half alone. The Badgers dominated the game after a strong start, leading by as much as 20 points at one stage.

“We came out ready to play. The guys were focused, and it showed early,” Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard said. “Our ball movement was exceptional, and it set the tone against a tough opponent like UCLA.”

Despite struggling with their shooting, hitting only 31.7% from the field, UCLA could not match Wisconsin’s defensive intensity. The Badgers limited the Bruins to a mere 25% shooting in the second half, showcasing a formidable defense that led to numerous turnovers.

Leading the Badgers was John Blackwell, who not only contributed with key three-pointers but also kept the momentum going throughout the game. Blackwell’s ability to find his teammates enabled Wisconsin to maintain their advantage.

“We have built chemistry throughout the season, and today it showed,” Blackwell remarked. “We trust each other, and it makes a difference when we share the ball like we did.”

Statistically, Wisconsin dominated in several categories, including rebounds (22 in total) and points off turnovers (8). UCLA’s offense struggled to find rhythm, with their star players unable to convert when it mattered most.

Error-prone moments reflected in the final turnover differential: Wisconsin managed just 7 turnovers compared to UCLA’s 13. The Badgers also excelled on the boards, recording 21 defensive and 11 offensive rebounds.

UCLA head coach Mick Cronin acknowledged the importance of starting strong in tournaments. “We didn’t execute our game plan today. Credit to Wisconsin,” Cronin said post-game. “They established dominance early, and we just couldn’t recover.”

The victory propels Wisconsin into the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament, where they will battle the winner of the Michigan State versus Ohio State matchup. The Badgers’ path to the finals appears promising as they continue to build on their momentum.
