Worcester Red Sox Baseball Game Highlights

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Worcester Red Sox achieved a historic offensive performance on April 18, 2025, defeating the Rochester Red Wings 20-7 at Innovative Field. This victory marked the WooSox’s fifth consecutive win and ensured they captured the series against the struggling Red Wings.

In what can be touted as their most prolific game in franchise history, the WooSox set a new record by accumulating 26 hits, breaking their previous record of 20 hits set against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in June 2024. Their 20-run performance matched their high-scoring game against the Norfolk Tides in May 2024.

The franchise record for runs in a game, however, remains at 26, a mark set by the Pawtucket Red Sox in 1989. The WooSox’s explosive offense included a season-high six home runs, with significant contributions from players such as Abraham Toro, Tyler McDonough, Marcelo Mayer, Nathan Hickey, Alex Binelas, and Vaughn Grissom.

Mayer, who achieved a career-high with seven runs batted in, became the first WooSox player to reach this number since Niko Kavadas in July 2024. Both McDonough and Grissom also set personal milestones with five hits each during the game.

The WooSox’s offense was relentless, scoring in seven of nine innings. The scoring began in the first inning as Mayer drove in Roman Anthony with a groundout. Toro then launched a two-run home run, setting the tone early for the Worcester lineup.

Worcester extended their lead by scoring five runs in the second inning. McDonough’s first homer of the season ignited the sequence, followed by Mayer’s grand slam, which was the second grand slam for the team in as many days.

Additional runs accompanied by solid base hits continued through the innings, with the team tallying runs again in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth frames, showcasing their dominance and offensive coordination.

In the ninth inning alone, Binelas hit a three-run homer, while Grissom followed with a solo shot, delighting the visiting WooSox fans.

On the pitching side, Robert Stock earned his second win of the season, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, while walking two and recording three strikeouts. The pitch efficiency was vital in maintaining Worcester’s commanding lead throughout the game.

The WooSox and Red Wings prepare to meet again tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. for the penultimate game of their six-game series, with radio coverage starting at 12:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and across the WooSox Radio Network.
