World Games Series Opens with Records and Thrilling Competitions in Chengdu

Chengdu, China – The World Games Series (TWGS) opened today, March 29, 2025, showcasing elite athletic performances and setting the stage for qualification toward The World Games 2025. The event at Chengdu Sport University attracted participants from 28 countries, highlighting the global nature of the competition.

A significant moment came when Hungary’s Nandor Kiss broke the world record in the Men’s Surface 400m Final, finishing in 2:54.64, edging past the previous record of 2:55.57 set by Oleksii Zakharov of Ukraine. “It’s a really good feeling, but this is not my best time,” said Kiss. “That’s why I’m here. I really wanted it. Maybe I’ll aim for another one tomorrow.”

In the Freediving events, Zsofia Torocsik (HUN) and Alexey Molchanov (AIN) secured qualification spots for The World Games 2025 in their respective Women’s and Men’s Dynamic without Fins categories. “Winning means I might return for The World Games in August,” Torocsik expressed, reflecting on her performance. Meanwhile, Chan Kai-Hsiang (TPE) celebrated his victory in the Men’s Dynamic without Fins, attributing his success to rigorous preparation.

The Life Saving competition featured exhilarating races where Italy excelled. Helene Giovanelli triumphed in the Women’s 100m Rescue Medley, followed by teammate Lucrezia Fabretti and Spain’s Alba Gomes Mesias. Giovanelli remarked, “I love Chengdu, this place, and this swimming pool! I’m so happy with the result of this race.”

The Men’s 100m Rescue Medley concluded with Poland’s Kacper Majchrzak finishing first, narrowly surpassing New Zealand’s Fergus Eadie and Italy’s Simone Locchi. Majchrzak viewed his performance as a strong stepping stone toward The World Games, stating, “I see it as good training, and I’m happy about my time today.”

Among the competitive races, Italy’s Lucrezia Fabretti shone in the Women’s 100m Manikin Carry with Fins, while Davide Cremonini took gold in the Men’s category. Other highlights included Zoe Crawford (NZL) winning the Women’s 200m Super Lifesaver and Francesco Ippolito (ITA) leading in the Men’s event, both expressing joy about their performances and the event’s vibrant atmosphere.

The second day promises further exciting events across underwater sports, life-saving techniques, and boules sports, ensuring a thrilling continuation of the competition. Finals will feature top-tier athletes in Finswimming and additional Life Saving events.

Streaming access for the TWG Series is available worldwide, with on-demand options accessible throughout the weekend. The event is also broadcast on local channels, enhancing its visibility and reach among fans.
