Xbox Games Coming to LG TVs via Cloud Gaming Partnership

SEOUL, South KoreaLG Electronics announced Wednesday a partnership with Xbox to bring cloud gaming to its smart TVs, allowing users to play popular Xbox titles without a console. The collaboration will integrate Xbox Game Pass into LGu2019s webOS platform, offering access to hundreds of games, including highly acclaimed titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Avowed.

The service, expected to launch by the end of 2025, will be available on the latest LG smart TVs in South Korea and other regions where Xbox cloud gaming is supported. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain access to a wide range of games, with LG aiming to enhance the gaming experience through improved TV specifications and advanced graphics technologies.

LGu2019s Game Dashboard function will allow users to optimize frame rates, graphics, and latency based on the game genre. Additionally, all 2025 LG OLED TV models will support Nvidiau2019s G-SYNC Compatible and AMDu2019s FreeSync Premium technologies, ensuring smooth gameplay. The TVs will also feature Bluetooth ultra-low latency (BT ULL) controllers, developed in collaboration with Razer, MediaTek, and Telink, offering a response time of up to 1 millisecond for competitive gaming.

Razer is set to be the first company to receive LGu2019s certification for BT ULL-supported controllers. LG plans to expand its gaming library, which currently includes over 4,000 titles, and introduce a certification program for third-party controllers to ensure compatibility with its TVs.

This move aligns with Microsoftu2019s broader push into cloud gaming, emphasizing convenience and accessibility. While cloud gaming on smart TVs offers a more affordable alternative to consoles, it comes with limitations, such as capped resolution at FHD and 60 FPS, and reduced audio quality compared to dedicated gaming systems.

Despite these trade-offs, the partnership marks a significant step in making high-quality gaming more accessible to a wider audience, leveraging the growing popularity of cloud-based gaming services.
