Yadav, Rauf Fined for Conduct in Asia Cup Clash
NEW DELHI, India — Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf each received a 30 percent match fee fine for their conduct during the recent Asia Cup matches between India and Pakistan. The International Cricket Council (ICC) made the decision after conducting hearings on September 26.
Rauf was penalized for making aggressive gestures toward fans during the match, which was seen as unsportsmanlike behavior. In a gesture that mocked Indian fans, Rauf displayed a ‘6-0’ sign with his hands, referencing previous military conflicts and eliciting backlash from the crowd.
Suryakumar Yadav faced consequences for his comments that alluded to the recent Pahalgam terror attack and expressed solidarity with the victims and the Indian Army. His remarks during a post-match interview generated controversy and led to a finding of guilt by the ICC match referee Richie Richardson.
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan received only a warning for his celebration after scoring a half-century, as it was deemed less severe than the actions of his teammates. The team managers from both sides were present during the hearings, emphasizing the ongoing tensions in the multi-nation tournament.
The ICC’s decision followed complaints lodged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which also expressed dissatisfaction with match referee Andy Pycroft. However, an investigation cleared Pycroft of any wrongdoing.
As both teams prepare for the upcoming final on September 28, it remains uncertain whether the fines will impact their performance on the field. This incident has added to the intense rivalry and expectations surrounding the match.
