Jazz Chisholm Jr. New York Yankees

BRONX, New York — The New York Yankees are looking to address a significant gap in their batting lineup as Jazz Chisholm Jr. struggles early in the 2025 season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone is considering moving Chisholm to the ninth spot in the batting order after a challenging start to the season.

Chisholm, who made a strong impression in his debut season with the Yankees last year, is facing difficulties at the plate this season. After a disappointing performance on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles, where he went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, his strikeout rate currently stands at over 30% with 39 strikeouts in 124 plate appearances.

Despite his batting troubles, Chisholm has shown promise defensively and has been effective on the base paths, stealing six bases out of seven attempts. Additionally, he has demonstrated some power, with nine of his 18 hits resulting in extra bases.

“Right now, it makes sense to move him down in the order,” Boone said. “He’s doing some things well, but we need to give him a chance to regroup and find his rhythm.”

If Chisholm’s batting average remains below .200 in the coming weeks, Boone indicated that options such as benching or sending him to the minors might be considered to help him regain his former performance level of a .250 hitter with pop.

The Yankees, now a few games into the season, aim to solidify their title chase following last year’s World Series appearance. Chisholm’s performance in the coming weeks will be critical for the team’s success, as they look to improve during the early part of the schedule.
