14-Year-Old Killeen Student Fatally Stabbed in School Fight

KILLEEN, Texas — A 14-year-old girl was fatally stabbed Monday morning during a fight with another student at Roy J. Smith Middle School, prompting a brief lockdown and leading to widespread grief in the school community.
According to the Killeen Independent School District (KISD), the altercation occurred around 11:25 a.m. when two female students were involved in a dispute that escalated to a stabbing. The suspect, also 14 years old, was apprehended swiftly by Killeen ISD Police.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene within minutes, providing care to the victim before transporting her to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. Despite efforts by medical staff, the victim succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
“Killeen ISD is deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the incident that occurred today at Roy J. Smith Middle School. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and school community as we grieve this heartbreaking loss,” stated Karen Rudolph, KISD communications director. “Our school has been placed in a LOCKDOWN status.”
KISD Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey expressed condolences, emphasizing the emotional toll on students and staff. “We know this tragedy has deeply affected our school community, and we want to ensure that our students, staff, and families have the space and support needed to grieve and begin to recover,” Dr. Fey said.
The school lockdown led to students being escorted to Manna Church located at 1826 Stagecoach Rd., where they were reunited with their parents. The Killeen Police Department confirmed that there was no ongoing threat to students or staff during the investigation.
“We recognize the emotional impact of this incident on the victim’s family, students, staff, and the entire Killeen community. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, and we extend our support to those in need,” the Killeen Police Department noted in a statement.
Classes at Roy J. Smith Middle School will be suspended until after spring break, resuming on March 24. Counseling services will be made available at the Jackson Professional Learning Center for students and staff needing support in the wake of the incident.
School officials announced that the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the tragedy on March 11 at 8 a.m., as the community comes to terms with this devastating loss.
