86-Year-Old Man Dies in Head-On Crash on Slippery Durham Road
An 86-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision on a slippery road in Durham, Connecticut, on Monday afternoon. The crash occurred around 1:19 p.m. on New Haven Road, according to state police.
The victim, identified as John Festa, was traveling southbound when his vehicle collided with a northbound car driven by 21-year-old Nevin Moore. A third vehicle, operated by John Gagne, attempted to stop but slid on the icy road, striking Moore’s car on the passenger side.
Festa was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in Festa’s vehicle sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized. The road was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the scene but has since reopened.
State police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the role of road conditions in the collision. No charges have been announced as of Tuesday morning.
