Yogi Adityanath Advocates for National Unity Amid Bangladesh Turmoil
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of national unity during a public gathering in Agra on Monday. He cautioned against societal divisions by drawing parallels to the recent turmoil in Bangladesh.
In his address, Adityanath stated, “Batenge to Katenge (If we are divided, we will be destroyed),” highlighting that the empowerment of the nation can only be achieved through unity. He remarked, “Nothing can be above the nation. And the nation will be empowered only when we are united.”
It was noted that Bangladesh has recently experienced significant anti-government protests, leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The situation has seen targeted violence against the Hindu minority, which Adityanath referenced to underline the need for vigilance against division.
Furthermore, Adityanath criticized opposition parties for prioritizing vote bank politics over the safety and rights of Hindus in Bangladesh. He stated, “While the opposition is quick to speak out on global issues, it has remained conspicuously silent about the persecution of Hindus and the demolition of temples in Bangladesh.”
In response to Adityanath’s statements, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav suggested that the Chief Minister harbors ambitions of becoming Prime Minister. Yadav remarked, “He (Adityanath) wants to become the prime minister but at least he should not play the role of prime minister,” emphasizing that decisions regarding international relations are the purview of the central government.
This incident is not the first in which Adityanath has made comments that intersect with national-level politics, prompting discussions on the role of state leaders in diplomatic matters.
