Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to Address King Dinuzulu Legacy Event
The annual King Dinuzulu Legacy commemoration, organized by AfriForum, will take a historic turn this year as it will be addressed by a reigning Zulu king for the first time. King Misuzulu kaZwelithini is set to deliver the main address at the event on Friday in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, marking the site where King Dinuzulu passed away 111 years ago.
Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the traditional prime minister of the Zulu nation, stated, “This event, organized by AfriForum, seeks to honor the memory of King Dinuzulu who spent the last years of his life at Uitkyk farm, Middelburg.” Buthelezi further highlighted the event’s role in fostering cultural collaboration between the Zulu nation and the Afrikaners.
Last year, Barend Uys, head of intercultural relations and cooperation at AfriForum, emphasized the importance of good relations between cultural communities. Uys remarked, “Good relations between cultural communities based on mutual recognition and respect are critical to ensuring a free, safe, and prosperous future for the children of cultural communities in Southern Africa.”
This event is seen as part of King Misuzulu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with the Afrikaner community, continuing the legacy of his father, the late King Goodwill Zwelithini. The late king was known to advocate for collaboration with Afrikaner rights groups, particularly in opposition to land expropriation without compensation.
