Sunday’s WNBA slate features only two games, and with both Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson sidelined, my attention is focused on some less obvious player prop markets.
My WNBA player props lean into opportunity, as Marina Mabrey continues to shine in the absence of Brittney Sykes, and Jewell Loyd does her best to fill in for the injured Wilson.
I’m also backing Jessica Shepard to have her way in the paint against a flimsy Toronto Tempo front line.
Read my WNBA picks for Sunday, July 5, to see how why I’m taking the Over on some modest lines for all three players.
Brittney Sykes is out for the foreseeable future, and Marina Mabrey is back following a one-game absence. Mabrey was on an incredible heater before missing her last outing, having tied the league’s all-time scoring record with a 53-point masterpiece against the Los Angeles Sparks.
She’s more than doubled the points and FGA of her next-closest teammate while operating as a one-woman wrecking crew. She’s hit the Over on this line in nearly half of her games, reaching the mark nine times in 20 tries.
Toronto offers an excellent matchup as the Toronto Tempo have surrendered the fourth-most rebounds, second-most PITP, and second-most second-chance points. They rank third-worst in defensive rating.
Shepard ranks in the Top 3 in total rebounds and offensive rebounds, and ranks sixth in PITP scored.
With A’ja Wilson (leg) out for a third straight game, Jewell Loyd is expected to remain with the first unit. The Aces will need all hands on deck to fill the offensive void left by the league’s top scorer, and Loyd should see plenty of minutes and shot opportunities.
