Carlos Alcaraz’s wrist completely healed, aiming for Cincinnati return

The tennis world could be getting one of its biggest stars back sooner than later. Carlos Alcaraz’s injured wrist is “completely healed,” according to a report from La Verdad. Alcaraz is reportedly targeting a return at the Cincinnati Open (Aug. 11-18) with an eye toward the U.S. Open later this summer.

Alcaraz, 23, has been out since April with a right wrist injury that forced him to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon. “Now Carlos Alcaraz, get back here,” John McEnroe said on ESPN after Jannik Sinner defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday. Added Patrick McEnroe: “We definitely need to get him healthy.”

In his absence, Alcaraz has dropped to No. 3 in the rankings. Alexander Zverev won his first major at Roland Garros (without having to play Alcaraz or Sinner), while Sinner beat Zverev in the Wimbledon final. “Now these guys will be 1-2 now when they come out of here,” Patrick McEnroe said. “Sinner is the best player in the world right now on every surface. He is the favorite at the U.S. Open, but with Alcaraz back at the U.S. Open it will certainly make things more interesting.”

The Spaniard has won seven Grand Slam titles, and completed the career Slam at the Australian Open in January. He is the defending U.S. Open champion and also won the title in 2022 for his first career Slam. Alcaraz and Sinner have combined to win 10 of the last 11 majors.
