A Lake Travis High School football player is fighting for his life after collapsing during Monday morning practice.
Senior Odin Hensley suffered cardiac arrest around 8 a.m. Aug. 10, according to a GoFundMe organized for his family. The 17-year-old was airlifted by Travis County Star Flight to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
Austin-Travis County EMS said medics responded to a reported seizure and initiated advanced life support before calling for the helicopter. The patient was transported in critical condition, spokesperson Shannon Koersterer confirmed.
Head coach Hank Carter canceled the remainder of practice that day. In a message to parents, he wrote, “Out of an abundance of caution, we canceled the remainder of today’s football activities.” He expressed gratitude to the athletic training staff, coaches, LTISD PD, and first responders who arrived within minutes.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the player and his family at this time,” Carter added. He later acknowledged the incident on social media but did not share the player’s name.
The Lake Travis community has rallied around the Hensley family. A GoFundMe page set up to assist them had raised more than $116,000 by Wednesday afternoon. Organizers said Hensley remains in the ICU, and doctors are concerned about his brain and organs. His parents have taken time off work to be with him.
Lake Travis ISD spokesperson Marco Alvarado said the team held a meeting Tuesday morning and players went through light activities. He declined to provide further details about the student’s condition.
