The numbers are in, and for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, they look good in New York City. A new Siena University poll, released Aug. 12, finds his favorability among city voters has climbed to 69%. That’s up from 58% in June.
The survey, which polled 811 likely New York voters, asked about several state politicians, including Gov. Kathy Hochul. In the five boroughs, 69% view Mamdani favorably, while 24% see him unfavorably. Eight percent said they didn’t know or had no opinion.
Outside the city, the picture is different. Across New York State, 47% of respondents gave the mayor a favorable rating, while 44% viewed him unfavorably. In June, that breakdown sat at 45% favorable and 34% unfavorable, with 21% undecided. Upstate, Mamdani’s numbers flip: 41% favorable, 46% unfavorable.
For the first time, Siena pollsters also asked about the Democratic Socialists of America, the organization Mamdani belongs to. Statewide, the DSA is seen unfavorably by a 30% to 47% margin. But in New York City, it enjoys a 49% favorable rating against 32% unfavorable. About 20% of city respondents were still unsure.
Mamdani took office in January and is currently vacationing upstate with his family, though the exact location wasn’t disclosed.
