Scotland’s growing influence in Italy’s top flight is about to get a much wider audience. The BBC has announced a season-long deal to show 38 live matches from Serie A, with coverage split between BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer.
Each round will feature one live league game. BBC ALBA will carry 19 of those matches with Gaelic and English co-commentary, while the remaining 19 will be streamed on BBC iPlayer with English commentary. The arrangement gives fans a regular Sunday-night window into a league that now has a distinctly Scottish flavour.
That flavour is hard to miss. Kieron Bowie and Josh Doig are both set to start for Sassuolo in Sunday’s trip to Atalanta. Further up the pitch, Napoli’s Scott McTominay remains the headline act, though his club-mate Billy Gilmour is the one to watch. Gilmour is back from a knee injury that kept him out of the World Cup and will be hoping for a bigger role under new manager Massimiliano Allegri.
There is depth beyond the obvious names. Lewis Ferguson, a Coppa Italia winner in 2025, is preparing for his fifth campaign with Bologna. Torino striker Che Adams and Udinese teenager Lennon Miller complete the Scottish contingent. England also has skin in the game, with defenders Djed Spence and John Stones joining champions Inter Milan this summer, while AC Milan pair Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have both represented England in the past, as has new Cagliari midfielder Harry Winks.
The Serie A deal adds to the BBC Sport’s European football portfolio, which already includes Bundesliga and La Liga clips.
