Steelers’ Rodgers May Wait on Rookie Tackle Iheanachor Due to Injury

Aaron Rodgers is back with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and one reason he decided to go for it one more year in the NFL is because the Steelers got serious about bolstering their offense.

Rodgers has won multiple MVP awards and is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame one day. But, he can’t do it alone. He needs targets on the field. He also needs protectors.

Now, one of the promising rookies who’s supposed to protect Rodgers has been battling an injury, so the quarterback may have to wait for protection from this player.

Brooke Pryor of ESPN is giving Steelers rookie Max Iheanachor, offensive tackle, props in a piece laying out the NFL rookies and how they’re performing this summer in camp. But, the caveat is that Iheanachor is dealing with an injury.

“Iheanachor was trending in a positive direction until he sustained what appeared to be an upper-body injury early in training camp,” Pryor notes.

However, on the positive end, “Before the injury, he showed promise once pads came on, winning one-on-ones at least once against nearly every Steelers pass rusher.”

Pryor sends a warning, however, that “missing two weeks, especially as a rookie, hurts Iheanachor’s chance to be the Week 1 starting right tackle.”

Still, Iheanachor was the team’s first-round pick, and they obviously have confidence in him when he’s healthy enough to perform to his best abilities. He’s shown real promise in training camp, so hopefully the season will give him a chance to shine when he’s healthy.
