Comedian Russell Howard has revealed that his baby son Felix died shortly after birth.
In an Instagram statement, the 46-year-old described the loss as “the most devastating time of our lives.”
Howard’s wife, Cerys Morgan, an NHS doctor, had given birth to Felix when he died.
Howard praised the hospital staff who cared for the family, calling their compassion “extraordinary.”
He also thanked a bereavement midwife named Lauren, who had experienced a similar loss. “Her care meant more to us than we can ever put into words,” he said.
In a poignant recollection, Howard described how Felix was placed in a cool cot after his death. “We could hold him, talk to him and tell him how much we loved him. Those hours are among the most precious memories we have of Felix.”
The couple promised to help other families facing similar circumstances. That promise led to the creation of The Felix Foundation.
The foundation aims to support families affected by miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, neonatal death or related bereavement. It will offer funding for specialist facilities, training and other forms of support.
To launch the charity, Howard will host a Stand-Up Gala at The O2 in London on 8 February. The lineup includes Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, Guz Khan, Greg Davies, Mo Gilligan, Michelle Wolf and John Bishop.
Howard said he would never forget the generosity of his fellow comedians, who are performing for free. He added that Felix’s “legacy may help other families through the darkest moments of their lives.”
Howard and Morgan have been together since 2004 and share another son born in August 2024. The comedian, known for Mock The Week and Russell Howard’s Good News, recently performed at the Edinburgh Fringe.
