Amid a rough past seven days for the Oregon Ducks, Friday night offered some reprieve as the Ducks demolished the Portland State Vikings with a final score of 84-0.
There were a number of players who stood out, namely quarterback Dante Moore, running back Jordon Davison, defensive tackle Bear Alexander and wide receiver Messiah Hampton, but there was one player in particular that showcased just how impactful he could be when given an opportunity.
True freshman safety Jett Washington popped as soon as he entered the game defensively, recording an interception ten minutes into the second half. Four plays and a Ducks touchdown later, Washington and the Oregon defense found themselves back on the field — and the same result occurred, as Washington picked off Portland State quarterback Gabe Downing on back-to-back defensive plays.
This second interception was even more impressive than the first, as Washington dove to the ground, carefully keeping it close to his body as he fell to the turf. Two plays, two interceptions for the five-star and No. 1 safety in the 2026 recruiting class.
Washington’s pair of interceptions, both of which led to Oregon touchdowns, came after a forced fumble in the first quarter on kickoff, as the 6-foot-5 safety used his length to knock the ball free from the Vikings’ return man.
