Packers-Bears Rivalry Flares as Santos Appears to Trip Golden

There is certainly never any love lost between the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears in the NFL‘s oldest rivalry. And it was evident again during the Week 5 game on Oct. 11 at Lambeau Field.

It came late in the second quarter after Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden returned a punt for 17 yards into Bears territory. The return took him out of bounds to the Chicago sidelines. He continued to run along the opposing sideline before bumping into and knocking over a Chicago staff member.

Golden did not look back at the staff member he knocked over. Then, as he was making his way back to the field and over to the Packers side, he appeared to say something to Bears kicker Cairo Santos. Santos then took exception and stuck his foot out. It looked like he was trying to trip Green Bay’s second-year wide receiver.

That fired up Golden even more as he kept yelling back at the kicker. The Packers led 14-7 at the time of the exchange.

Santos’ foot did not do its job in the second half when he missed a field goal. The Bears were trailing 20-7 at that point in the game.
