The New York Giants (3-1) and Washington Commanders (1-3) square off on Sunday afternoon at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, in Week 5. Both teams have officially announced their inactives for the game.
The following players will be inactive for the Week 5 matchup between the New York Giants (3-1) and Washington Commanders (1-3). Defensive lineman Chauncey Golston (neck) did not travel with the Giants to Washington and was placed on injured reserve. Safety Jason Pinnock (concussion) was the only other player previously ruled out on the final injury report for the Giants, who elevated wide receiver Dalen Cambre and outside linebacker Trace Ford from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.
For Washington, starting quarterback Jayden Daniels has been cleared to start after missing the previous two games with a dislocated left elbow. But the Commanders have been battling through more injuries. They had already ruled out eight players heading into Sunday: wide receiver Stefon Diggs (hamstring), backup quarterback QB Marcus Mariota (knee), safeties Percy Butler (hamstring), Tyler Owens (hamstring) and Nick Cross (illness), defensive end Charles Omenihu (knee/groin), cornerback Trey Amos (ankle) and running back Jeremy McNichols (quad). Wide receiver Terry McLaurin (hamstring) was listed as questionable. The Commanders also signed linebacker Austin Keys to the active roster and elevated safety Darren Hall and wide receiver Van Jefferson from the practice squad.
The New York Giants have placed defensive lineman Chauncey Golston on the injured reserve with a neck injury. Golston suffered the injury in the Giants’ win over the Arizona Cardinals. While Golston and the Giants sought a second opinion during the week, the fear had been that Golston’s neck injury would be a “long term” injury. He’s emerged as a key contributor along the Giants’ defensive line, playing on both base downs and as a part of the Giants’ pass rush packages.
The Giants signed defensive lineman Jihad Ward off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad last week, and placing Golston on the injured reserve will likely lead to his debut for the Giants. This is Ward’s second stint with the Giants, and he is familiar with Dennard Wilson after spending the 2025 season on the Tennessee Titans’ defense. Ward had a career year under Wilson with 31 total tackles, 4 for a loss, 5.0 sacks, 22 quarterback hits, and 4 passes defensed.
The Giants are also elevating receiver/returner Dalen Cambre as well as OLB Trace Ford. Cambre is a fan favorite for his work over the last two preseasons, as well as a needed piece given the Giants’ shallow receiver depth chart and emphasis on special teams. Ford will help reinforce a Giants’ front seven that is thin following the injury to Brian Burns.
