The 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will bring the planet’s best gymnasts to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, for team, all-around and apparatus world titles. Competition begins Saturday, 17 October with three days of qualifying. The finals run from 20 to 25 October.
The stakes in Rotterdam carry into 2028. These championships are the first artistic gymnastics qualifier for the LA28 Olympic Games. The three medal-winning teams in each of the men’s and women’s competitions will earn a team quota.
The women’s field is headlined by the return of Rebeca Andrade, back on the global stage for the first time since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Reigning all-around world champion Angelina Melnikova is expected to defend her title. Paris 2024 uneven bars champion Kaylia Nemour of Algeria and a United States team that has won the last seven world team golds are among the contenders.
In the men’s event, Tokyo 2020 Olympic all-around champion Hashimoto Daiki and Paris 2024 champion Oka Shinnosuke lead Japan‘s bid in a likely showdown with the People’s Republic of China.
Not even three anterior cruciate knee ligament tears could stop Andrade from becoming the first Brazilian woman to win Olympic gold in artistic gymnastics. She talks about the importance of perseverance, her joy at her Tokyo 2020 achievements, her gratitude to Brazilian gymnasts of the past, and her chances of competing at Paris 2024.
