Week 5 Chaos: Ties, Streaks and a Historic Comeback

The Sunday slate for Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season began in London, where the Eagles and Jaguars played a tense game. Jacksonville won despite self-inflicted mistakes, including 13 penalties, a missed PAT and a failed scoring chance from the 1-yard line. DaVon Hamilton, forced to long snap after Ross Matiscik injured his shoulder, fired a key snap on a 57-yard field goal with one second remaining to seal the win. Philadelphia lost after managing just 22 rushing yards, its fewest since Week 7 of 2015, ending a streak of 124 straight games with at least 40 rushing yards.

In Cincinnati, Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes, three of them under pressure, as the Bengals beat the Dolphins. Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase connected on their 18th touchdown of 40-plus yards, the third-most by a quarterback-receiver duo over the last 40 seasons. Only Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison (21) and Steve Young and Jerry Rice (20) had more. The Bengals also found success in the run game with Samaje Perine and Chase Brown.

Drake Maye threw four touchdown passes in the Patriots’ win over the Raiders, his second straight game with at least three passing touchdowns. He became the first New England quarterback with three or more passing touchdowns in back-to-back games within a season since Tom Brady in Weeks 4 and 5 of 2018. Elijah Ponder recorded four pressures and two sacks for New England, both sacks against left tackle Kolton Miller. For Las Vegas, rookie Fernando Mendoza made his NFL debut and completed 6 of 8 passes for 48 yards.

The Vikings stayed undefeated by beating the Saints, holding New Orleans to 142 total yards. Tyler Shough was blitzed on 10 of 11 first-half dropbacks and finished with the lowest passing success rate of his career as a starting quarterback. Kyler Murray won his first game with 200-plus passing yards, a passing touchdown and no interceptions since Week 18 of 2024. The Saints’ offense continued to struggle with slow starts, turnovers and a nonexistent run game.

In New Jersey, the Jets beat the Browns as rookie David Bailey recorded three sacks, tying Hugh Douglas for the most sacks in a game by a Jets rookie since 1982. Bailey finished with nine quarterback pressures. The Jets sacked Deshaun Watson eight times, the most by any team in a game this season. Cleveland’s offense could not run consistently, and Watson’s 40 rushing yards nearly matched running back Quinshon Judkins’ 44.

The Giants and Commanders tied 27-27 in Washington, the second tie between those teams since 2022 and the third since overtime was introduced in 1974. New York rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter. Washington held a two-touchdown lead before its defense allowed 17 points after halftime. The Commanders fell to 1-3-1 and 0-2-1 in the NFC East.

Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren led the Steelers over the Colts with 101 rushing yards and 87 receiving yards. Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, his 90th career game with at least three, joining Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning as the only players with at least 90 such games. The Colts, who lead the NFL with 16 field goal attempts, again struggled to finish drives.

Houston earned its first win by blowing out Tennessee. C.J. Stroud went 26-of-34 for 261 yards and one touchdown and added a rushing score with no turnovers for the fourth straight game. The Texans have held opponents under 90 rushing yards in seven straight games, the longest active streak in the NFL and the longest in franchise history. Tennessee scored three points and gained 187 yards.

Green Bay avenged last season’s playoff loss to Chicago as Jordan Love completed 10 of 11 play-action attempts for 228 yards and a touchdown. Christian Watson had his second game of 2026 with 140-plus receiving yards and multiple receiving touchdowns, becoming the first Packers player with multiple such games in the first five games of a season since Don Hutson. Love became the first Green Bay quarterback with at least four completions of 40-plus yards since Brett Favre in 2003.

The Chargers fell to 0-5 after losing to the Broncos. Denver’s offense struggled for three quarters under Sean Payton’s play calling before a fourth-quarter surge. Bo Nix finished with 123 passing yards, one touchdown, a fumble and a career-low passing total. Los Angeles started four rookie offensive linemen and lost despite Justin Herbert’s 54 rushing yards; Herbert has a turnover in five straight games, tying the longest stretch of his career.

Detroit rolled past Arizona as Jahmyr Gibbs ran 25 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes with no interceptions and now has 12 passing touchdowns and no giveaways through five games, the first player in NFL history to do that. Arizona allowed more than 30 points for the fourth straight game and lost all four.

San Francisco beat Seattle as Mike Evans caught seven passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Brock Purdy led two late scoring drives, finishing 19-of-29 for 189 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. The 49ers’ defense generated a 45.7% pressure rate, its highest in a game since the start of last season. Seattle committed four turnovers that led to 21 San Francisco points.

Baltimore finished Sunday night with an overtime win over Atlanta. Tyler Huntley completed his last 10 passes for 79 yards and converted two key third downs before his winning 1-yard sneak. The Ravens’ 14-play overtime touchdown drive was the longest in the NFL since 2018. Calais Campbell set the record for most games played by a defensive lineman with his 283rd game, breaking a tie with Jim Marshall. Atlanta’s Jake Matthews made his 200th consecutive start. Michael Penix Jr. left with a ribs injury, and Tua Tagovailoa threw a game-ending interception in overtime.
