In the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the initial trends from Kannauj constituency indicate a promising lead for Akhilesh Yadav, positioning him to recapture the seat for the Samajwadi Party (SP), a region the party has held since 1998.

Located in Uttar Pradesh, Kannauj is witnessing a crucial electoral battle in the 2024 general elections, with the voting conducted across all seven phases. The recent polling in Kannauj took place in Phase 4 on May 13, 2024, registering a voter turnout of 60.86% in the previous 2019 elections.

According to the survey by India Today-Axis My India, Akhilesh Yadav, the prominent leader of SP and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is gearing up for a robust contest against the incumbent BJP MP, Subrat Pathak, in Kannauj.

Akhilesh Yadav, who previously represented Kannauj from 2000 to 2012 before assuming the role of Chief Minister, is on track to reclaim the seat with a significant historical background. His father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, has been a three-time Member of Parliament from the constituency.

The dynamics of the Kannauj seat shifted notably in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when Subrat Pathak of BJP secured a narrow victory margin, defeating Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife. Dimple Yadav had previously won the seat unopposed in a by-election and subsequently emerged victorious again in 2014.
