Jon Rahm Eyes Major Championship After Strong Round

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jon Rahm has put himself back in contention for a major championship at the PGA Championship, shooting a 4-under 67 on Saturday. He now sits at 6-under-par 207, trailing leader Scottie Scheffler by five shots.
Rahm, who won the U.S. Open in 2021 and the Masters in 2023, hasn’t been in the hunt for a major since he announced his move to LIV Golf in December 2023. He struggled in the four majors since, finishing outside of eight shots from the leader.
“I mean, it’s hard to express how hungry I may be for a major — about as hungry as anybody can be in this situation,” said Rahm. “Very happy to be in position again. Don’t know where I’ll be… But that’s a great position. This golf course is tricky and one shot is nothing on 18 holes.”
A slightly comical moment occurred for Rahm on No. 11 when his approach shot hit a spectator in the head. Despite the slip-up, the fan was uninjured. Rahm stopped to check on him, shared a laugh, signed a glove, and advised him to aim better if he were a soccer player.
Still, the road to catching Scheffler won’t be easy. Rahm expressed confidence in his game. “Very happy with the state of my game,” he said. “I think today was the round that I knew I was capable of. Those first two rounds felt very confident, and just did everything a little bit better. So just very excited again to be in this position.”
