Southern California High Temperatures Weather Forecast

LOS ANGELES, CA — Meteorologists are forecasting an extreme heat wave in Southern California this week, with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees in the San Fernando Valley and reach the 90s in other areas. This heat wave follows a mild weekend, with significant temperature increases likely starting Monday.

“We’re looking at pretty widespread 80 to 90 degrees for highs” Monday across the Valley, said David Gomberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, which oversees Los Angeles County. The temperature is projected to peak at 103 degrees in Woodland Hills on Wednesday and 101 degrees on Thursday.

Meanwhile, downtown Los Angeles is anticipated to experience temperatures rising from the low 80s on Monday to the low 90s midweek. Gomberg noted, “I’d say Wednesday and Thursday are going to be the two hottest days. Saturday is when things should get back to normal.”

For regions in the Inland Empire, highs are likely to soar into the mid- to upper 90s by Wednesday and Thursday. Inland cities in Orange County, including Irvine and Anaheim, are expected to see temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s by midweek.

Despite not being record-breaking, Gomberg characterized the upcoming week as “abnormally warm.” He advised that people should remain cautious during strenuous midday activities, especially the elderly and young children.

As the week progresses, the National Weather Service is likely to issue heat advisories to warn residents of the high temperatures. By Saturday, however, temperature averages should return to the mid-80s, closer to the norms for this time of year.
