Unseasonably Cool, Rainy Weather Expected in Central New York

Binghamton, N.Y. – Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania are bracing for a chilly and wet week ahead. The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued warnings for widespread rain from Wednesday through Saturday.
The forecast calls for rain beginning Wednesday, with a 90% chance of showers and daytime temperatures struggling to reach the 50s. Thursday is expected to continue this trend with an 80% chance of rain and persistently cool temperatures.
According to meteorologist Sam Postich, areas including Binghamton, Ithaca, Syracuse, and Scranton should be prepared for wet weather nearly every day. “This slow-moving system across the Great Lakes is the cause of the daily rain showers,” he said.
Residents are advised to take precautions as patchy frost could occur Tuesday night into early Wednesday, particularly in rural valleys where temperatures may drop to the upper 30s. The recent cold snap has made for uncomfortable conditions, as winds from the northwest may reach up to 25 mph on Monday, making the air feel even colder.
With highs only reaching the low 60s and lows consistently in the 40s, drivers should expect slick roads during morning commutes. Authorities recommend that residents secure outdoor furniture and delay planting tender crops due to the weather conditions.
As the week progresses, rain chances will continue with updates from the National Weather Service as this slow-moving storm system lingers over the region.
