Jamaica and El Salvador Secure Wins in World Cup Qualifiers

MIAMI – Jamaica secured a top two finish in its group as the Second Round of World Cup qualifying continues. The Road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has Concacaf nations in action during the June 2025 match window. Group winners and runners-up will advance to the Third and Final Round.

In Group E, Jamaica won 1-0 against the British Virgin Islands at A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in Road Town. Warner Brown scored the only goal in the 17th minute, connecting with a free kick from Demarai Gray. This victory guarantees Jamaica a spot in the Final Round, holding nine points and unable to drop below second place.

Jamaica will face Guatemala on Tuesday to compete for first place in the group. Both teams currently have nine points, but Guatemala leads based on goal difference. Oscar Santis of Guatemala is coming off a hat-trick performance in their recent 4-2 win against the Dominican Republic.

In another match, El Salvador defeated Anguilla 3-0 at Raymond E. Guishard Technical Centre in The Valley. Santos Ortíz scored first in the 30th minute, followed by Brayan Gil in stoppage time of the first half. Elvin Alvarado sealed the win with a goal in the 77th minute. El Salvador now has seven points and is in second place heading into a crucial match against Suriname on Tuesday.

Puerto Rico and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are also looking to keep their World Cup hopes alive in Group F. Puerto Rico must win to maintain a chance for advancement. Meanwhile, Suriname needs just a draw to secure first place in the group.

As the qualifying rounds near the end, teams are racing for valuable points and a coveted spot in the Third Round.
