Calgary Stampeders Toronto Argonauts Football Game

TORONTO – The Calgary Stampeders defeated the Toronto Argonauts 29-19 on Saturday, marking Calgary’s second consecutive win of the season.

In a matchup at BMO Field, Calgary quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. scored a key touchdown in the fourth quarter, a smooth eight-yard run that put the Stampeders ahead 26-11 at 7:43. This capped off a 70-yard scoring drive.

The Argonauts had briefly narrowed the gap earlier in the quarter when Lirim Hajrullahu kicked a 47-yard field goal, reducing Toronto’s deficit to 19-11 at 5:08.

Dedrick Mills of Calgary also contributed with a one-yard touchdown run that extended the lead to 19-8 just before the end of the third quarter.

Toronto’s Nick Arbuckle rallied his team with a dramatic 46-yard touchdown pass to Damonte Coxie at 9:50 in the final quarter. Arbuckle then converted a two-point attempt, bringing the score to 26-19.

Calgary sealed their victory when Rene Paredes added a 23-yard field goal at 13:45, bringing the final score to 29-19.

The game attracted a crowd of 17,902 fans, many of whom witnessed the Argonauts raise their Grey Cup banner before kickoff. However, the Argonauts faced challenges on the field as they lost significant players to injury. Middle linebacker Wynton McManis and starting running back Deonta McMahon both exited the game in the first half.

Calgary endured the loss of all-star receiver Reggie Begelton, who suffered a knee injury and required assistance to leave the field early in the game. Begelton later returned to the sidelines on crutches.

Adrian Greene also scored a touchdown for Calgary, contributing to the team’s steady performance. Paredes made three field goals overall during the match, alongside a convert, while Hajrullahu tallied three field goals and a single point for the Argonauts.

Both teams struggled with their running game in the first half, as Toronto managed just 28 rushing yards, barely edging Calgary’s total.

The Stampeders will host the Ottawa Redblacks next Saturday, while the Argonauts are set to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday.
