Christian Pulisic Inspires Young Soccer Players in Culver City Visit

CULVER CITY, California — Christian Pulisic, the captain of the U.S. national soccer team, traded a Gold Cup semifinal preparation for an inspiring visit with young athletes in Culver City.
On Tuesday, Pulisic, 26, took part in a camp under a freeway overpass, engaging with kids as he opened the second Christian Pulisic Stomping Grounds facility in the U.S. “This is kind of what I was, you know, born to do,” he said, reflecting on the chance to inspire the next generation of soccer players.
Pulisic is currently the national team’s leader in appearances and goals, but he faced criticism for choosing not to participate in the Gold Cup, a decision sparked by his recent grind of playing 3,650 minutes with AC Milan.
“It’s just been a lot for me, and I really needed a break,” Pulisic explained on the Golazo Network podcast last month. This choice drew backlash from former players, including Tim Howard, who labeled it a selfish act.
Despite the negativity, he stands firm in his decision. “To question my commitment, especially towards the national team, in my opinion that’s way out of line,” Pulisic asserted, maintaining he felt the decision was best for his well-being before the World Cup.
The facility, developed in partnership with Puma, aims to provide accessible soccer opportunities. “This is a start,” said Krist Colocho, president of the Culver City Football Club. He emphasized the club’s mission to eliminate the pay-for-play model that often makes the sport unaffordable for many children.
Pulisic’s presence at the camp provided priceless memories for young participants. “It’s amazing to get to play with him,” said Colocho. The camp included kids aged 9 to 13, participating in training drills led by the national leader.
Younger players like Arih Akwafei, age 6, expressed joy after scoring a goal against Pulisic. “It was fun doing everything,” she said, celebrating her small victory. Fellow camper Cameron Carr, 9, shared that he appreciated Pulisic’s choice to be with them instead of training, highlighting the impact the visit had on their morale.
As events continue to unfold in the soccer world, Pulisic’s commitment to uplifting young players shines brightly, reminding everyone of the joy and love for the game.
