Roma Earns Convincing 2-0 Victory Over Verona
ROME, Italy — AS Roma celebrated a convincing 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona on September 28, 2025, marking a notable improvement in their league performance. The win was fueled by early goals and solid defensive play, positioning Roma firmly in the Serie A title race.
Artem Dovbyk opened the scoring in the seventh minute, becoming the first striker to find the net for Roma this season. The Ukrainian forward skillfully redirected a cross from Zeki Celik into the far corner, giving Roma the lead early.
Despite the early advantage, Roma faced pressure from Verona, who nearly equalized multiple times. Mile Svilar, Roma’s goalkeeper, delivered a standout performance, making crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet.
In the second half, Matías Soulé secured the win with a goal in the 79th minute, sealing Roma’s second victory in league play this season. Soulé exhibited impressive patience, finding space in Verona’s defense to score.
Roma’s solid defensive lineup, including Gianluca Mancini and Celik, contributed to minimizing Verona’s scoring opportunities, allowing only one goal in five matches so far this season. The duo, along with Svilar, combined for 22 defensive actions and 17 ball recoveries during the game.
Coach Gian Piero Gasperini praised the team’s cohesion and performance. “We need to maintain this level of intensity as we compete in various competitions, focusing on both defense and offense,” he stated during the post-match interview.
With this victory, Roma joins AC Milan and Napoli at the top of the Serie A table with 12 points after five matches. As they look forward to the upcoming Europa League match against Lille, the Giallorossi fans remain optimistic about their team’s potential this season.
