Fryeburg Fair Wedding Couple

FRYEBURG, Maine (WGME) — Love was in the air Thursday at the Fryeburg Fair, where Amy Crossman and Kristopher Milliken, both from Bar Harbor, tied the knot on a whim. The couple arrived at the fair with Kristopher’s parents and made the spontaneous decision to get married.

In less than an hour, their fairy-tale wedding became a reality as fair employees quickly arranged flowers from Expo One and guests, comprised of fellow fairgoers, began to gather around.

Rachel Andrews-Damon, director of publicity at the Fryeburg Fair and a certified officiant, received the call to officiate. “I hustled on up to the Ferris wheel, and I met with the bride and groom. Put a few words together and just did the whole thing. Sign, sealed, and delivered,” Andrews-Damon recounted.

The story of the surprise wedding quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of many. Andrews-Damon expressed her pride in the couple choosing the Fryeburg Fair as their wedding destination. “I think the total cost of their wedding was probably $30, and that was the two tickets to get into the Fryeburg Fair,” she noted.

Stephanie Grindley remarked, “Most people don’t equate romance and the Fryeburg Fair, but maybe you would say otherwise.” To which Andrews-Damon replied, “We’re a very romantic fair, apparently. We’re happy to lay claim to that title.”

This event marks not the first wedding at the fair, nor does Andrews-Damon believe it will be the last. Earlier that same day, there was a proposal at Old McDonald’s farm.
