Nebraska Volleyball Dominates Penn State in Straight Sets

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team dominated No. 16 Penn State, winning 25-6, 25-15, 25-13 at Rec Hall on Friday night. Nebraska improves to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten Conference, while Penn State falls to 7-6 and 1-2 in the B1G.
Nebraska hit a season-high .437 and held Penn State to an impressive -.114 hitting percentage. The match marked Nebraska’s second-best defensive effort in the rally scoring era, which began in 2001. Penn State managed only 34 total points in the match, the fewest the team has scored in a single match since 2001.
The Nittany Lions’ performance in the first set was particularly poor, with just six points, marking their fewest in a non-5th set since 2001. This defeat also marked the first time the Lions were swept at home since September 24, 2022, against Michigan. For Nebraska, it was the first sweep at Rec Hall since September 22, 2017.
Nebraska showcased their offensive power, with key players contributing offensively. Adriano led with nine kills on a .615 hitting percentage, while Murray added eight kills at .545. Sigler and Landfair both recorded six kills, contributing to the team’s strong performance.
Setter had 26 assists and led all players with 10 digs. Penn State’s leading scorer was Kennedy Martin, who managed 11 kills, hitting .182. Nebraska also held a decisive advantage in team stats, with 39-16 in kills, 34-20 in digs, and 9.5-5 in blocks.
In the first set, Nebraska stormed back after trailing 2-0, scoring 10 consecutive points to take control of the game. After a series of kills from Adriano, Sigler, and Murray, Nebraska notched the set 25-6.
The second set saw Nebraska never trail, going up 3-0 early. Their lead ballooned to double digits at 19-9 before closing out the set 25-15. In the third set, the team extended their lead with an 8-0 surge thanks to strong serving and hitting from players like Reilly and Allick, finishing with a 25-13 win.
Nebraska is back in action on Saturday at 6 p.m. (CT) against Rutgers. The match will be streamed on B1G+ and can be heard on the Huskers Radio Network.
