Blackhawks Edge Mammoth 3-1 for First Win of the Season

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Utah Mammoth 3-1 on Monday night, marking coach Jeff Blashill’s first victory with his new team. The game took place at United Center, where the Blackhawks broke a third-period tie to secure the win.
Despite being outshot 23-14, the Blackhawks found their rhythm in the final period. Forward Andre Burakovsky scored the decisive goal on a power play with 11:05 left in the game. Blackhawks’ players rallied as Burakovsky netted low on the stick side.
Blackhawks’ Ryan Donato contributed two goals to the team’s success, including an empty-net goal in the closing seconds. Chicago’s goalie made 22 saves to help seal the victory.
In the first two periods, the Mammoth controlled the game, outshooting the Blackhawks 13-3 in the second. John-Jason Peterka scored for the Mammoth, tying the game 1-1 at the start of the third period. This marked Peterka’s first goal since joining the team from Buffalo.
The Blackhawks had a tough start to the season, losing their first three games. However, Blashill remains optimistic. He took over as head coach in May, having previously coached the Detroit Red Wings. The Mammoth struggled in their season-opening road trip, losing two of their first three games, and played without defenseman who is expected to miss four weeks due to injury.
Looking ahead, both teams will play again on Wednesday night. The Mammoth will host the Calgary Flames for their home opener, while the Blackhawks will visit the St. Louis Blues.
