Broncos Linebacker Dre Greenlaw Suspended Ahead of Cowboys Showdown
DENVER, Colo. — The Denver Broncos inside linebacker room will face significant challenges this week as they prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Dre Greenlaw has been hit with a one-game suspension stemming from a post-game incident following Wil Lutz‘s game-winning 39-yard field goal against the New York Giants on Sunday. The NFL confirmed that Greenlaw’s suspension was upheld on appeal, meaning he will miss the game against the Cowboys. His absence will also cost him a total of $292,778, which includes a game check and a $90,000 roster bonus.
Another linebacker, Justin Strnad, has also been penalized, receiving a $15,546 fine for making improper contact with referee Allen after the game. NFL Vice President of Football Administration Troy Vincent indicated earlier in the week that Strnad would face a fine, now confirmed.
The total financial impact for the Broncos’ inside linebacker room amounts to $308,324 plus Greenlaw’s absence for the crucial game. In light of these suspensions, the Broncos elevated Jordan Turner from the practice squad to fill the void left by Greenlaw and Garret Wallow, who is on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue.
Turner is the third inside linebacker to be elevated from the practice squad this season, following Levelle Bailey and Wallow, who has already been promoted to the 53-man roster. As the Broncos prepare to take on the high-powered Cowboys offense, their defensive unit will have to compensate for the critical missing players.
Head coach Sean Payton emphasized the importance of stepping up during this challenging situation. “We need everyone to bring their A-game,” he stated. “This is a vital match-up for our season’s direction.”
The Broncos are currently at a pivotal point after recent victories against lesser-ranked teams. Sunday’s matchup against the Cowboys, who boast the league’s best offense, will test Denver’s depth and resilience.
